The next step is to test the last with a specific design, using the materials as close to what might be used for production as possible. The purpose of this step is twofold: one, to provide another opportunity for verifying the geometry of the lasts, two, to test the patterns for the first time of this specific design.

Any last that has not been used in production needs to be tested to ensure the fit (the fit for most people of course) before it can be duplicated in various sizes for production. In order to test this new last, I had to make a shoe from it so that I can try it on and get a feel for further modifications. This post describes the basic steps for transferring the three dimensional form of a shoe last on to the paper for pattern making.
